As the season winds down for most players, NFLPA activity level is on the upswing, with several union events planned for the upcoming weeks. The first is our New Player Rep Orientation on January 13, when more than 25 new Player Reps and Alternates will come to Washington for a one-day briefing. The agenda will include Player Rep duties and responsibilities. It will also cover Player Rep meeting procedures in preparation for the annual Board of Player Representatives meeting in Maui in mid-March, which this year will include the election of a new Executive Director. Next is a series of Super Bowl activities in Tampa, including the annual NFLPA press conference on January 29 and the Players Party on January 30th. February brings several important events at the annual Combine in Indianapolis, including the NFLPA Agents Advisory Committee Meeting, the NFL Competition Committee Meeting and our annual one-day seminar for NFLPA Contract Advisors on February 20. Meanwhile, players should be receiving the winter edition of a new NFLPA magazine called The Huddle, which will highlight various off-season activities and provide valuable membership information. This coming off-season will be an important time, and we urge players to visit the Web site often for updates on critical issues, including any progress (or lack of progress) in collective bargaining with the owners. The 2009 season will be the last capped year under the CBA, with 2010 (uncapped) being the last season covered in the current deal.
