{ “I would not be where I am today without it.” }

Former NFL linebacker Tom DePaso knows first-hand the value of a good internship.

“I interned for the NFLPA in 1984, and that was my first work experience off the field,” said DePaso, who is now Associate General Counsel and a Regional Director at the NFL Players Association. “I would not be where I am today without having had that experience.”

Through the years, the NFLPA Internship Program for Players has been helped a number of former players gain work experience needed for their post-NFL career. The three-month paid internship provides players with hands-on office experience in areas such as communications, legal, information systems and membership services. Internships in sports marketing are also available through NFL PLAYERS, the union’s marketing and licensing arm.

“Internships aren’t just for students,” NFLPA Director of Human Resources Mary Moran said. “They are a great way to try a new job without making a long-term commitment. They are also an excellent way to test the waters in different fields. Diversify your experience, build your resume, and join our team!”

All NFL players are encouraged to apply for NFLPA internships, regardless of past experience. To apply, players need to submit an application, resume, cover letter, recommendations or referrals, a writing sample and a transcript. Candidates must have played one full season in the NFL and/or AFL to qualify.
