ONE TEAM SHOP INTRODUCES “PRIDE SHIRTS”

Shirts are available starting today on www.OneTeamShop.com, the NFLPA’s official online store, to raise awareness for equality. All net proceeds to benefit Athlete Ally.

WASHINGTON – One Team Shop today announced the launch of its One Team Pride Shirts.  The month of June is LGBT Pride Month and the perfect to time to raise awareness around important issues of respect and acceptance.

“Athlete Ally is a proud partner in this effort as the NFLPA makes clear to all of its players that the union supports and welcomes them, regardless of sexual orientation, and to all LGBT fans that they are respected,” said Hudson Taylor, Founder and Executive Director of Athlete Ally.

“I am extremely proud to be a part of this collaboration between Athlete Ally and the NFLPA’s One Team Shop to raise awareness both of Pride Month and the issue of tolerance and respect within the NFL itself,” said Chris Kluwe, punter for the Oakland Raiders. “As players, we are role models to a wide variety of people, and this is a great way to send a message of empathy to those who love and watch the game. Also, I'm pretty stoked that people can buy something with my number on it.”

“June is a special month for the LGBT community,” said Super Bowl Champion Brendon Ayanbadejo. “I am extremely excited that the NFLPA’s One Team Shop is adding its name to the list of ever-growing allies. The simple fact that football players believe in equality for every human being is going to make an impact on a lot of peoples’ lives.”

“This is about inclusion, acceptance and openness within our community,” said Scott Fujita. “I know some guys look at it as political support or advocacy but I don't. It is about respecting everyone in the community in which we live and recognizing that our country should be about the freedom that people have to live their lives.”

Steve Gleason, a former NFL player supporting this effort said, “It’s pretty simple for me, I believe all people are created equal, regardless of their sexuality. To promote respect and acceptance is an important role for NFL players and the NFLPA.”

“I am excited that the NFLPA’s One Team Shop is teaming up with Athlete Ally for this remarkable journey in support of the LGBT community,” said NFL free agent wide receiver Donté Stallworth. “June is a very important month for this community. It is very important for us as professional athletes to respect and support equal rights of all people. We can make a difference and it starts now.”

Each One Team Pride Shirt features the name and jersey number of an NFL player, including: Brendon Ayanbadejo, Connor Barwin, Domonique Foxworth, Scott Fujita, Steve Gleason, Chris Gocong, Chris Kluwe, Donté Stallworth, Terrell Suggs and Eric Winston. The shirts will be available for purchase immediately at the One Team Shop website (http://oneteamshop.com).

One Team Shop will donate all net proceeds to Athlete Ally, a non-profit organization that fights homophobia in sports.
